Planned Parenthood vs Texas: The Showdown Continues (Plus: Update on China)

3 May

Things are really heating up in Texas, and, boy, is Planned Parenthood mad! The leading abortion provider in America is used to getting its way, and have proven they will use any tactic necessary to do it (case in point: the debacle with the Susan G. Komen Foundation!) Even the Obama Administration is quick to defend them, but, in this case, Texas isn’t rolling over, even as the tantrums get bigger and uglier!

For those of you who have not been following the story in the news, I will take you back to 2007, when the Texas legislature passed a law stating that no state funds would go to any organization that either provided abortions or affiliated with abortion providers. Number one on their list was Planned Parenthood. Actually, there are now several states that have attempted to pass this same resolution, but, so far, most of them have been prevented from doing so (either because of PP suing them or the Obama administration telling them that they can’t and threatening to cut off federal funds.)

The reaction of the federal government was no different in Texas. Last year they issued a warning that if Texas cut off funding to Planned Parenthood, they would no longer receive any federal Medicaid funding for their Women’s Health Program. This would mean the loss of about $36 million dollars, which went to provide breast and cervical cancer screenings as well as birth control.

Texas fought back, arguing that this was a violation of the 10th Amendment to the Constitution, which reads: “The powers not delegated to the United States (federal government) by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.” In other words, the Obama administration has no right to tell Texas which organizations they have to dispense their Medicaid allotment to. If the state chooses not to support agencies which provide or support abortion, that should be their choice, not the federal government!

Finally, Texas told the Feds that they could keep their money; the state would come up with the funds to provide care for their women who needed it. However, that was not enough for the abortion giant. Planned Parenthood is suing the state, demanding that they get their share of the pie! Kicking and screaming, they are insisting that women will die without them and that the birth rate will skyrocket! (Funny thing, though,  how even though free or cheap contraceptives have never been more accessible, the birthrate, especially among single mothers, still seems to go up!)

One really ironic twist in this whole story is that the Texas chapter of Planned Parenthood is actually facing two lawsuits from former employees claiming that they have proof that PP has defrauded the Medicaid Women’s Health Program out of millions of dollars. The charge is that they did this by “billing for medical services not rendered, billing for unwarranted medical services, billing for services not covered by Medicaid and creating false information in medical records which was material to billing for medical services.” No wonder they didn’t want the program to stop! However, I digress…

Planned Parenthood’s lawsuit of Texas claims that the state is violating their 1st Amendment rights to “freedom of speech.” Or maybe it was “freedom of religion.” I’m not clear on the specifics, but they are claiming their rights are being breached simply because they believe in abortion. Actually, I think that Texas mostly disapproved of the actual action of killing unborn children, which Planned Parenthood performs at an alarming rate!

But, Planned Parenthood cried back that the centers being funded were not actually providing abortions.  They declare that they are very careful to keep their funds separate and that the government funding is strictly kept for other services. Baloney! I work in a non-profit, and I know that if we receive funds specifically for one project, all that does is release general funds to be used somewhere else. In the same way, federal funds for cancer screenings and birth control pills allows Planned Parenthood to funnel other donations towards performing abortions. One hand washes the other, and any thinking person can see through the deception.

Anyway, this brings us to this week. On Monday (April 30) U.S. District Judge, Lee Yeakel, ruled that Texas should be forced to continue to fund Planned Parenthood, at least until the court case had been decided.  However, just yesterday (April 2) he was overruled by Judge Jerry Smith of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, who decided that the funding could be ended after all.  Therefore, unless Planned Parenthood wins their court challenge, they will not see another penny from the State of Texas. (I’m starting to like Texas more and more!)

This is huge!! Planned Parenthood, as well as the Obama Administration, knows that if Texas is successful in this venture, there are a lot of other states that will follow suit. And, if Texas is successful in their lawsuit of the federal government, that will be doubly dangerous for PP. It will go a long ways towards ending tax payer money going to underwrite this underhanded, corrupt abortion provider. And it’s about time!

(Please keep praying for Chen Guangcheng and his family! There are a lot of mixed, confusing reports coming out of China. At first it was reported that Chen had requested to leave the American Embassy to go to a hospital, and that he wanted to remain in China. Then it was leaked that he made a late night call to supporters telling them that he only left the embassy because the Chinese government had threatened to kill his wife, and that he desperately wanted to get his family out of China. Please pray that our government will step up and protect this hero,  and provide the necessary protection to keep them safe and alive!)

Pepsi and Chen Guangcheng, Chinese Hero: An Update!

1 May

Before continuing on to discussing China and an update on the situation with Chen Guangcheng, the blind Chinese dissident that I have discussed previously in this blog (“Has Chinese Pro-life Activist, Chen Guangcheng Been Murdered?” from 10/10/2011) I wanted to give you some exciting news about Pepsi. I mentioned a few weeks ago that Pepsi had a contract with the company Semonyx, who was using a fetal cell line from an aborted baby to test the flavor enhancers for their new beverages.

In a letter just this week, PepsiCo’s Vice President, Paul Boykas stated that no “tissues or cells lines derived from human embryos or fetuses (will be used) for research performed on behalf of PepsiCo.“  He went on to say: “We took the matter very seriously. We have an official Statement on Responsible Research and we intend to live by that policy.” So, that is good news for those of you who love Pepsi products. You might want to drop them a line to thank them.

The main issue I want to talk about today is China. I don’t know about you, but I find it very frustrating and short-sighted of our country to be so deeply indebted to this corrupt giant. I admit that I know almost nothing about financial matters, but, seriously, if we have to borrow money from someone (our being so deeply in debt being another topic altogether!) couldn’t it be some other nation?

There are a plethora of reasons for us to resist building relationships with China (including the fact that they desire to conquer the world for Communism and we have already fought- and lost-  two wars with them.)  To me, however, the top reason is their horrible record on human rights, especially with their “one child policy.” We’ve all heard the stories of women being forced to abort their babies, some on the brink of giving birth. There was a picture on the news sites the other day of a dead baby lying in a bucket of blood, another victim of China’s brutal regime.

Case in point of our conflicting dilemma with China is Chen Guangcheng. Activists in China have been reporting that he was able to escape the house where he and his family were being held under house arrest. As I reported before, there have been many reports of him being severely beaten and tortured for his stance against his country’s forced abortion policy. In fact, late last year there were fears that he had been murdered.

This is clearly a man whose life is at risk if he remains in China. There are several groups who are attempting to get him into the United States. However, this has become a complicated issue. As a result of our owing so much to China, it has become doubtful if we will help Chen. President Obama refuses to discuss the situation.  When asked about it, the president stated: “I am aware of the press reports, but I’m not going to make a statement on the issue.” He continued on: “What I would like to emphasize is that every time we meet with China, the issue of human rights comes up.”

Hmmm… That is an interesting statement. It fails to mention if the reaction to human rights in China is discussed in a positive or negative light. Or, if China brings it up to remind the United States that they should stay out of it. The fact remains that the forced death of Chinese babies certainly has not diminished since we have increased our relationship with them.  It is rather difficult to lecture a huge bully who has control of your purse strings.

I have read reports that Chen does not desire to leave China. His family is still being held captive. Plus, he is determined to change things, even if he has to be a martyr to do it. The world needs more people with his courage. However, that is really beside the point as far as my argument is concerned.

We need a major change in this country so that we can repay our debts and get out from under the control of this dangerous, barbaric nation. It is pathetic that we cannot offer asylum to people like Chen because of our irresponsible spending. Even worse, what will happen as we are mired with deeper and deeper debt? What will China ask of us next? God only knows what the future holds if we do not change it!

Of course, as far as abortion goes, we really cannot claim to be on a much higher moral plain. Abortions are not yet forced by the government, but I fear it may be closer than we think. In order to prove that to you, let me bring up a hypothetical situation:

If ObamaCare is allowed to stand and a panel is instituted to review situations, case by case, to see if healthcare funds will be allocated or not, let’s imagine two parents who discover they are pregnant with a child that has been diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. With such a condition, the child will need years of expensive medical care and probably die at a young age. I can easily foresee that such a family would be denied insurance coverage for their child, forcing them to either abort or to live a life filled with overwhelming debt.  Is this a forced abortion? If it’s not, it is awfully close!

Shame on us for being allowing ourselves to be so compromised that we cannot stand up against this bully with their shameful record of human rights! Shame on us that we do not readily welcome in heroes such as Chen Guangcheng! I will keep you posted as the story unfolds. In the meantime, please pray for Chen and his family!

My Book, Soft Like Steel, Will Be Out Next Week!

29 Apr

To my faithful readers- I have a book that will be coming out next week entitled Soft Like Steel. It is the true story of my grandmother’s courageous journey, as laid out in the pages of her hand-written journal. Set against a backdrop of Nebraska and Iowa during the devastation of the Dust Bowl and World War II, it is a tale of much more than mere survival. It is a testimony to an incredible woman whose love and devotion rescued her family from the curses of the past into lives of stability, purpose and joy!

Check it out at my website, www.softlikesteel.com!

The War on Virginity: Fighting Back for the Tim Tebows of This World!

26 Apr

In case you haven’t heard, a dating service in New York City, called Ashley Madison, has offered a $1 million reward for anyone who can provide proof that they have had sex with Tim Tebow. They posted the following statement on their website: “Sports and sex (and of course, infidelity) go hand in hand. If Mr. Tebow is indeed abstaining from adult relationships, I would encourage him to find a nice lady or two and enjoy his youth and fame as much as possible.”

AshleyMadison is a website which specializes in helping married couples to have affairs, so I guess it should not be too surprising that they would stoop to this level. Sadly, however, their attitude reflects a large part of our society. They simply cannot believe that a healthy, good-looking, talented football player would not be having lots of sex. In fact, the website claims that they know that Tim “has been using his infamy from this year’s football season to get some ladies in the sack.” They can’t imagine anyone not acting that way, hence the huge bounty for proof.

(As a side note, I did a little research into AshleyMadison.com. It’s motto is: “Life is Short. Have an affair.” They claim to have close to 14 million anonymous members. There is another website devoted to those who are dissatisfied with AshleyMadison’s services. The biggest complaint seemed to be that women could not find any men to have affairs with who were sensitive or nice.  Instead, they made “disgusting” requests. How “sad” they could not find a “nice” man who was willing to cheat on his wife to have an affair with! Just when you think you’ve heard it all…)

It is really tragic that one young man’s commitment to save sex for marriage is making such big news! What happened to the days when it was the sex scandals that made the news? It has become the norm for athletes to sleep with every woman in sight. In fact, it is almost expected. We don’t hear about the many men in professional spots who live in faithful, committed marriages (and there are many!) And, I would imagine there are also others, like Tim, who are saving themselves for the woman they will marry. They just aren’t surrounded by the same media circus as Tim, focused in on their commitment to Christ as if it was a circus side-show.

I pray for Tim whenever I think about it. He is living under extremely difficult circumstances for an outspoken believer. I would hate to have my every action placed under a media spotlight, with people just waiting for me to stumble and fall. Just like all of us, Tim is not perfect. I just pray that he can stay strong in areas like his sexuality. Our world needs more strong role models who demonstrate that a Biblical lifestyle of obedience is possible even in today’s permissive society.

In our work at the AAA Center for Pregnancy Counseling, we see far too many young women who attend good, Biblically sound churches and are having sex outside of marriage. They often seem surprised to know that this behavior goes against scripture. If they ever heard it preached from the pulpit, it certainly never left an impression in their mind. And yet, statistics show that men who go to church are 5 times more likely to save sex for marriage, with women lagging a little behind at 3.9 times more likely. I was surprised by this statistic, but I did find it encouraging.

I am willing to admit that I have been just as affected in my thinking by the media as anyone else. Of course, my line of work hasn’t helped either, with my impression that the great majority of young people are sexually active.  Judging by television or the movies, I would think that everyone is having sex (except for total losers, who would if they could.) Actually, some of the latest statistics show that virginity is on the rise. A poll by ABC News showed that among men and women, from 15-24 years of age, 27% of men and 29% of women were still virgins.  That is an increase from just a few years ago.

Leaving morality and biblical convictions aside, why in the world would a sane person even want to be sexually active in this day and age? With rampant sexually transmitted diseases, which are inevitable if one has many partners, why would anyone want to take such a chance? Especially considering that some of these can no longer be treated!

Plus, I have seen far too many young woman whose lives have been devastated by giving their heart away one too many times to a man who only wants her for what he can get sexually. As I’ve shared before, our Relationship Education Team in the schools, uses an illustration in which a paper heart is held up. With each sexual encounter, a piece of it is torn away. After several of these, all that remains to give away on one’s wedding day is a battered, unrecognizable thing which was once whole and beautiful. I’ve looked into many eyes which were as beaten down by betrayal in sex as if a club had been used to crush their spirit.

The reason that God condemns sex outside of marriage is for our protection! He created us, and He knows the devastating toll that sex without committed love will have upon us. In time, it will destroy our ability to commit to long-term relationships, keeping us from experiencing the deepest and best type of intimacy.  The high rate of divorce and children born outside of marriage attest to this, and both are destroying our society.

We need more Tim Tebows in our world! And we need to pray that he and others like him will stay strong! Young men who are striving to stay pure can look at Tim’s life and find inspiration to continue to fight on. Again, this is a war, and we must begin to fight even harder for all that is pure and good and right!

Sex Selection Abortions: The REAL War on Women, Even Here At Home!

24 Apr

I have pointed out in several blogs in the past about the horrendous targeting of baby girls for death. There were several articles in the news today about this very thing, and, tragically, not just overseas. Little girls are being targeted here as well!

In fact, the news from India was more encouraging than it was from this part of the world. In India, one mother is fighting back against being forced to abort her 5 daughters, and she is making a significant difference. Since 1994, there has been a law against ultrasounds intended for targeting baby girls for destruction, however the government has been very ineffective in prosecuting those who break it.

Amisha Bhatt is only 36 years old, but she has been through a life-time of hell. Between August of 2001 and January of 2009, her husband and in-laws forced her to abort five little girls, discovered by means of illegal ultrasounds. One little girl was born, but only because Amisha had been living with her parents at the time because of an illness. She was finally thrown out of her home by her mother-in-law, so that the family could find a woman who could give them a son (too bad she doesn’t know that gender is decided by the husband, not the wife! How many women have suffered for this over the centuries when actually they were not the ones to ‘blame’!)

Courageously, Amisha is fighting back! She wants justice for her daughters who lost their lives and is pressuring the government to bring the doctors who performed the illegal ultrasounds to justice. When the Minister of Health examined the records of the clinics listed in her complaint, none of Amisha’s ultrasound procedures had been recorded, as is required by law.

This may have ended the proceedings, except that Amisha was one step ahead of them. She was able to hand over all the ultrasound reports and receipts for the illegal procedures which were performed on her. A little further digging exposed a link between the ultrasound clinic and the place where the abortions were performed. One ugly hand was feeding the other, and the sacrifice was India’s unborn girls.

Due to the courage of this grieving mother, two doctors have been stripped of their license to perform medicine and are facing a malpractice suit. One can only hope that the government will finally find a measure of Amisha’s courage and begin to fight back against this deeply held cultural practice. More mothers and babies should not have to be sacrificed before the barbarity ends!

And yet, if they look to this part of the world, India may just find a new way of detecting their baby girls than illegal ultrasound. New tests are finding their way onto the market which claim they can determine the sex of the baby at 10 weeks. And, just last week, a clinic in Seattle Washington came under scrutiny for placing the advertisement (shown above) in Canadian newspapers to target the Indian community there, offering them an opportunity to “create the family you want.”

In Canada, it is illegal to use sex selection with embryos for in-vitro fertilization, except if there is a family history of a gender-linked disorder or disease. Obviously, this is not true in Washington State, where the fertility clinic who placed the ad offers to test the embryos for the sex before implanting them. The indications are that some families visit the clinic even though they do not have problems with fertility, but for the assurance that a male child can be born.

A recent study found that Indian-born women in Canada have an unusually high proportion of boys, particularly as second or third babies. The average was 111 for every 100 girls among 2nd children and climbed to 136 boys for every 100 girls for the third child. The norm in Canada is 105 boys for every 100 girls.

The early sex selection tests are flooding into the market. A simple blood test at 10 weeks into the pregnancy can be done to find out if the baby is a boy or a girl. In general, I have no problem with these: it is natural for expectant couples to be curious. However, I fear that they will have the same results as the new, early DNA testing kits. If the family does not like the results they see, they can abort. Facts show that babies with Down Syndrome rarely survive the womb. In our ever-increasing drive as Americans to have the “perfect family,” will the same be true with gender?

The last of the three articles I read this morning has to do with our old “friend,” Planned Parenthood. It seems that they reported to the Huffington Post that they fear that Lila Rose and her organization, Live Action, are up to their old expose’ tricks, this time concerning the organization’s willingness to arrange sex-selection abortions. (I love Lila and her group!)

It appears that PP clinics in at least 11 states have had some “hoax visits” over the last few weeks. In these, a woman has entered the clinic and asked questions about sex-selection abortions, and how she can abort if she is having a girl. They wanted to let everyone know that this was going on so that they could end this attempt to “promote misinformation about Planned Parenthood” and their services. Live Action would not confirm or deny the accusation.

What was particularly disturbing to me was the fact that the spokesperson for PP made it appear that the organization really has no problem with these types of abortions. “Decisions about whether to choose adoption, end the pregnancy or to raise a child have to be left up to a woman, her family and her faith, with the counsel of her doctor.” Or, presumably, their desire to have one sex or the other. If this is the case, why should they be disturbed if Live Action reaches the same conclusion?

What I don’t understand is why the deliberate targeting of unborn baby girls for destruction is not included in the so-called “War on Women“? This is the only attack where the victims are actually dying. With all the rest, with having to pay for birth control or restrictions on abortion, women are merely being “inconvenienced.” If its going to be called a war, let’s focus on the only REAL victims.

What is the Pro-Life Stance in Providing Medicaid to Pregnant Illegal Immigrants?

19 Apr

In case you have not been following the news here in Nebraska, our Unicameral has been involved in a complex case involving whether or not to provide funding for pregnant women who are in the country illegally. For years the state covered any pregnant woman,  citizen or not, with Medicaid funds. In 2010, the federal government cut off those funds, stating that they did not consider unborn children as “eligible recipients” for medical assistance. Nebraska decided to cover their citizens, but not those who are in this country illegally.

The issue came up again this year. Those with pro-life convictions have been very conflicted about the issue. It has been, at times, a very bitter fight. In the end, the bill was approved, only to be immediately vetoed by Governor Heineman. Just yesterday, April 18, the Unicameral had enough votes to override the governor’s veto and pass the bill into law.

To be honest, I had not really been following the whole debate very closely. However, thanks to my good friend, Denny Hartford, I was able to read a response to the whole issue by Senator Tony Fulton, an outspoken pro-lifer, explaining his reasons for voting against restoring coverage to illegal immigrants. He brought up an argument that I have also been very passionate about in the past. However, it really has very little to do with immigration.

Senator Fulton and I both agree that all unborn babies need to receive the best prenatal care possible. All children are created by God, and everyone has equal value to Him, no matter the legal status of their mother.  The real question becomes: who should provide that care?

Tony Fulton makes the point that in the midst of a void of government funds, private agencies and physicians have risen up to meet the need. Some of them are faith-based and some are not. He states, “if private efforts can meet this need, this is the appropriate route for we will have achieved the same end without tax dollars to pay for the obligations of one who is here illegally.”

For centuries, it was the church and other benevolent agencies who have taken on the responsibility to caring for the poor and needy. It is a recent phenomena to have the government provide for the disadvantaged by use of our tax money. However noble those intentions may have been in the beginning (and there are many who question the motives, including myself) it has resulted in thousands more being sucked into government assistance every year! As a result, we have millions who are trapped in generational poverty, reliant upon a system which may provide for their daily needs, but also causes a dependency from which it is very difficult to escape.

I find it very interesting that the Nebraska Catholic Conference was one of the more outspoken proponents of the bill. Please don’t misunderstand me: I truly believe that they were motivated by their concern for unborn children. However, I am disturbed that the thinking of churches has become one which calls for more government pay-outs rather than wondering how they can get involved and make a difference. Surely there are thousands of Catholic physicians who could commit a few free hours to provide medical care for those in need. With such a clinic, the problem would be solved!

At the AAA Center for Pregnancy Counseling, we provide services for anyone who comes through our doors. Legal status is not an issue. We are a faith-based organization which provides support through the generosity of those in the community who are concerned about unborn children and helping pregnant women see that there are options to abortion. Therefore, we can provide free pregnancy testing, STD testing and ultrasounds to those who need them. Planned Parenthood, which receives millions in government funds, sends women who cannot afford the price of their ultrasounds, to us.

In the two years that Medicaid funds were unavailable to those here illegally, we never had a shortage of places to send women. So many clinics and physicians provided their services for a reduced price that it never really even became an issue. We used to have a prenatal clinic as part of our services, so I know it is something that could be easily done by the faith community of Omaha. It is sad that this option was never even considered in the midst of the debate.

In the last election for president, I became aware that many Christians consider the expansion of welfare as a valid part of the entire pro-life debate. They reason that caring for the poor is as pro-life as stopping abortion.

I agree that Christ called us to care for the poor, but I am convinced that He was not referring to the government. He was talking about us, His faithful followers. We are the ones who are called to sacrifice to care to those who are truly in need. Pawning our responsibility off on the government is not what He had in mind.

Even though the law has changed, it is still not too late. The church could still rise up and open a pre-natal clinic, and share God’s love along with providing excellent care. Here at the Center, we believe there is also a desperate need for a faith-based STD clinic, where abstinence and healthy lifestyle choices can be dispensed instead of condoms.

Our country needs a revolutionary transformation in thinking! Church of Christ, let’s truly be the hands and feet of Jesus, instead of relying on the government. Let’s set the poor free while we provide food, clothing and medical care. It is our responsibility, not that of our government!

Does Raising Children Qualify As Work? Fighting the Liberal Assault on OUR Choices!

17 Apr

My husband and I were on our way out-of-town last week when the whole thing with Hilary Rosen accusing Ann Romney of never working, just because she stayed at home to raise their five sons, went out over the air waves. As the result of having more talk radio on than usual, I heard the story until I was sick of it. However, it also gave me lots of food for thought, as well as royally ticking me off.

Hilary Rosen, like most left-wing, self-righteous women, really feels that women can only be considered “true women” if they fit into a category of pro-choice and working outside the home. (Actually, to truly qualify, one has to be a single mother.) Otherwise, one is a freak and their opinion does not hold any merit. I am not exaggerating!

As far as motherhood and “work” is concerned, I have been on both sides of the fence. I stayed home with my four children until my youngest was able to go to school. After that point, I worked part-time so that I could be home by three when my crew rolled in, in order to provide snacks and find out about their day. I was fortunate to have jobs that allowed me a certain amount of flexibility and were very family friendly, so maybe my opinion doesn’t count. However, this is my blog and I am going to give it anyway!

I read a really snarky editorial on the Huffington Post today by a single mother who declared emphatically that while being a mom may take a lot of work, it certainly could not be considered a “job.” In one way she is right. Motherhood is actually more of a vocation than a job (not to be confused with vacation.) It is a life-long calling which demands everything that a woman (and man) has and more, whether they also have a job outside the home or not.

One great consideration for me in deciding whether or not to work outside the home, has been to attempt to figure out what was best for my children. When you hold your tiny newborn in your arms, you have a sense that their entire life is in your hands. It is scary to realize that the choices you make in their first few years will shape the person they turn out to be. In fact, even though my children are now entering their thirties, I know that I remain a very influential person in their lives. Like it or not, this parenting gig is a life sentence!

I have to confess that I LIKE working outside the home. Staying home with four young children was a stretch for me, especially when I began watching other people’s children to make ends meet. And lest you think it was an easy financial choice, think again! To this day I am not certain how we kept our heads above water during those days. However, we did, and I am so happy that I made the decision to dedicate myself to raising my children during their early years. For our family, it was the right choice.

I can also testify that some of those early days at home, full of tantrums, runny noses and dirty diapers, were far and away harder than my most difficult days at work! Add to that the factor that the world looks down their nose on moms that stay home and considers them losers or slackers, and it can be a lonely place to be! When I heard the criticism of Ann Romney, my first thought went to the young women I know who are at home with little ones and how they must have felt about their lives.

The so-called conservative “war on women” concerns abortion and contraceptives, but the liberal assaults on women go much deeper than that. In their attacks, we become “men with breasts,” stripped of our womanhood out of our concern for the rights of unborn babies. Now we are told, along with Ann Romney, that our opinions mean nothing if we make the choice to stay at home, raising the little ones given into our care.

Obviously, the liberals realize that Hilary Rosen went a little too far in her scathing comments. The White House has been backtracking all weekend, pointing out the value of all mothers and what hard work raising children really is. The truth is that all mothers, no matter what party affiliation they choose, know that the calling to raise a child is one of the most difficult ones there is. At least if one is going to do it right. This was an attack on all of us who make motherhood our vocation, whether we work outside the home or not.

Sadly, I have a strong sense that this is far from the last salvo on conservative women. Just like Hilary Rosen, the ugliest attacks will come from other females. In fact, over the weekend, “comedian” Sarah Silverman sent out a tweet stating, “Got a quickie aborsh in case R v W gets overturned.” She showed a picture of herself looking pregnant on one side and with a flat belly on the other. I think she meant for it to be funny. I’m sorry, but I don’t get it at all. In fact, I find it very sick. And I think that symbolizes the difference between us.

It seems like everything good and decent has been flipped upside down. Things like pregnancy and motherhood and marriage are now targeted for destruction. Instead of protecting and nurturing their young and working hard to form a solid marriage, women are supposed to fight for the right to kill their unborn children and put their needs and desires before anything and anyone else. I’m sorry, but I when I see the fruits of that lifestyle, all I see is destruction and pain and ruined lives.

Whether we like it or not, we are in a war. Now, more than ever before, we must fight to be the women God made us to be. If we do not wake up, we will end up footing the bill for others to not only live a destructive lifestyle (with free contraception), but also pay for them to destroy their children. We will lose all the tax benefits we gain by choosing to marry, and will not be able to speak out against things which run contrary to scripture.

If we don’t fight back, we will lose our rights. If not for our sake, we need to stand up for our children and grandchildren, as well as for all the innocent lives that will be snuffed out before their time!

Keeping it true!  Barb
